Significance
Mundan, the tonsure ceremony, symbolically removes impurities and "beastly tendencies" carried from before, making a fresh, clean beginning for the child's growth.
Our scriptures draw no distinction between a son and a daughter โ the Vedas declare a worthy daughter equal to ten sons. Mundan is therefore offered with equal joy to every child.
